Box Office Wrap-Up
with
Sean Lynch

With no major new releases in the first week of the new year, US audiences decided to catch up on all the blockbusters they missed seeing over the Christmas holidays.
The big winner seems to be the book-turned-movie Marley & Me which cracks the $100M mark (on it's way to a potential final cume of over $150M. It's a good start to 2009 for Fox who struggled in 2008 with dud after dud.
Isn't it ironic that Fox's only film that wasn't a complete dog... was about a dog.
Also holding up well was the Adam Sandler kid flick Bedtime Stories and Slumdog Millionaire.
We should also make a quick mention of Baz Lurhman's Australia which is about to bow out of the US Box Office Top 20 with takings of just over $47M. Despite a crazy level of promo, audiences just didn't seem to want anything to do with Nicole and Hugh.
